iPad Immigration Begins
Like kids tracking Santa’s route from the North Pole, anxious consumers are following shipments of iPads from the factory in Shenzhen, China to their front doors and store shelves this weekend.
Email notices went out yesterday informing customers who had pre-ordered a wifi-only iPad that their product was shipping. Also on Monday, a report from Morgan Stanley suggested Apple’s suppliers forecast 2.5 million units will be sold in the first three months. iPads will go on sale at Apple retail stores on Saturday, with some additional inventory made available to select Best Buy Stores.
Information reliability and high availability with StarWind Software
StarWind Software is the leading manufacturer of IP SAN solutions. Its iSCSI software is well-known around the world for its cost-effectiveness and wide range of features. In this article we will discuss features of StarWind that would provide your business with the highest level of data reliability and high availability. It is a well-known fact that your users sometimes mistake and your hardware fails. Actually it happens quite often and we all know that. In order to protect you from losing critical data, the StarWind lets you create virtual devices with CDP and Snapshot support. This means that you will have an unlimited number of snapshots which in its turn means an unlimited number of rollbacks! You can simply return to the previous state of your data in few simple steps. Moreover, a special Growing Image or Thin Provisioning option can be added to the basic functionality of CDP and Snapshot device. That option means that your CDP and Snapshot image file will not allocate the needed space at once, but will allocate it while it grows. The latter allows you to increase storage utilization level.Data recovery is also vitally important for modern business. StarWind offers its clients Synchronous Mirroring and Asynchronous Replication optionwhich, combined with the iSCSI technology, means that your data can be replicated fast and cheaply to any location, even to another continent! RAID-1 (Mirroring) ensures that your data is available to users 24/7/365 in situations like site failure. When your primary site is up and running again you can failback to that original site. These two powerful features of StarWind iSCSI Target will guarantee your data reliability and high availability even in most difficult situations and ensure nothing will affect your critical data.
Wyzo: A Browser with Built-in Support for Torrents
With the advance of the Internet, the browser is becoming one of the most used and important pieces of software on any computer. As such, I am always curious to see what the innovations that the new browsers are bringing to the market.

Last week I came across one browser called Wyzo. They call it “the media browser.” It makes sense, because the main differentiator of Wyzo is its native support for torrents. If you ever tried to download torrents, you know that first you need to have a BitTorrent client, right? Well, if you are using Wyzo, all you have to do is to click on the torrent file and the browser will manage the download for you. Pretty cool right?
Other features of the browser include a customizable start page where you can search up to 33 different search engines, and some security modules.
The browser is built on top of Firefox, so you can expect it to be just as reliable. Currently only Windows and Mac versions are available, but they are planning to release a Linux version soon (yeah I will be waiting for that one).
Intel’s 8-core CPUs will have 2.3 billion transistors
San Francisco (CA) – Intel celebrates its annual research show-off at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) with a look at upcoming Nehalem processors. The company is planning a “family” of processors with up to eight cores that will remain in the current dual- to quad-core power envelope.
We have known for a while that Intel’s Nehalem processors will be available with up to eight cores and multithreading technology to enable them to run up to 16 threads in parallel. This week at ISSCC 2009, Intel will be providing more detailed information about the Nehalem processor lineup. According to the conference program, 45 nm Nehalem processors are on the way for mobile, desktop and server applications.
